Cancer Prevention
New cancer cases can be reduced, and many cancer deaths can be prevented. Your cancer risk can be reduced significantly by living a healthy lifestyle. Positive lifestyle changes include avoiding tobacco use, increasing your physical activity, avoiding obesity, minimizing excessive sun exposure, and improving your daily nutrition.
Cancer screening can lower the high rates of cancer and cancer deaths. Screenings for cervical, breast, and colorectal cancers decrease death rates from these diseases. By finding signs of cancer early, we often can treat precancerous conditions before they become life threatening.
Feist-Weiller Cancer Center has wellness tips, free health screenings, and cancer-specific services and trials to prevent and screen for cancer.
Partners in Wellness
Feist-Weiller Cancer Center sponsors a community Partners in Wellness health screening program in two Shreveport locations on a year-round basis. Partners in Wellness is a free health screening program open to all Louisiana citizens who do not receive routine health screenings for prostate, colorectal, breast and cervical cancer, as well as cardiovascular diseases.
The goal of the program is to promote good health in Louisiana through routine screening exams and education.
