Louisiana Cancer Control Partnership (LCCP) is a CDC funded initiative, coordinated by the LSU Health Science Center in New Orleans. It is comprised of one hundred organizations and over two hundred individuals all committed to reducing the cancer burden of the State of Louisiana. The original goal of LCCP was to develop a state comprehensive cancer control plan; this goal was achieved August 2004. Feist-Weiller Cancer Center’s Dr. Ben Li is chair of the executive committee for LCCP. Dr. Jerry McLarty is co-chair of the screening and early detection task force.
Comprehensive Cancer Control is a collaborative process by which a community pools resources to reduce the burden of cancer. LCCP builds on and enhances existing foundations by working with organizations on state, regional, and local levels. To achieve this goal, Louisiana Cancer Control Partnership has a Regional Cancer Control Officer in all nine regions of the state. Each region of the state has formed a coalition of community stakeholders or representatives of organizations interested in cancer-related issues. These officers serve as a voice and give direction on a local level. Louisiana Cancer Control Partnership is leading the efforts for cancer control in the Great State of Louisiana. There are nine Regional LCCP offices across Louisiana with a Regional Cancer Control Officer at each location. Region 7 covers nine parishes in Northwest Louisiana.
The Region 7 coordinator is located at the Feist-Weiller Cancer Center in Shreveport. Locally, there is an active group called the Cancer Action Network which consists of individuals from many different local organizations that meets regularly to share ideas and resources related to cancer control in the Region 7 area. Meetings are open to anyone and are held the last Thursday of every month at 11:30. For information about LCCP or the Cancer Action Network call:
