Feist Weiller Cancer Screening Program AccreditedPublished: Friday, December 2, 2016 By: Kelli Dauphin
Feist-Weiller Cancer Center would like to announce that its newest cancer screening program, the lung cancer screening program, has been accredited by The American College of Radiology.
The Lung Cancer Screening program was started in 2016 by Dr. Shawn Milligan, a pulmonologist with the Partners in Wellness program and faculty member at Feist-Weiller Cancer Center. The program offers a CT (computerized tomography) scan. This scan uses a series of x-rays to show the shape, size and location of anything abnormal in the chest that might signal the need for follow up. CT scans are very sensitive and can show both cancerous and non-cancerous areas.
To qualify for a free screening, you must be over the age of 55 who is a current smoker and has smoked at least one pack of cigarettes per day for 30 years, or two packs per day for 15 years, and shows no signs of lung cancer, which includes persistent cough and weight loss. Recently quit smokers can be screened too, as long as they have quit within the past 15 years, and meet the other requirements.
If you or someone you know would like to be screened for lung cancer, please call our Partners in Wellness program. The Partners in Wellness program has a stand-alone clinic at 2015 Fairfield Avenue in Shreveport, Louisiana. Their local number is (318) 813-4020, and their toll free number is (800) 582-4523.
