Feist-Weiller Cancer Center is an integral part of the LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, and thus provides many valuable education programs. Feist-Weiller Cancer Center hosts a three-year Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program that is one of the largest in the southeast United States with fifteen fellows. In addition, hands-on comprehensive training is also offered for medical residents.
Feist-Weiller Cancer Center offers continuing medical education programs for physicians, nurses and other health care professionals. Two scientific symposiums are held each year: the Ray A. Barlow Scientific Symposium, which includes a large scientific poster presentation, and the Carroll W. Feist Scientific Symposium, which offers medical education credits.
Feist-Weiller Cancer Center offers a weekly Hematology-Oncology Grand Rounds program Friday mornings at 8 a.m. CMEs are offered for these presentations.

Nature's Pharmacy: Natural Products as Anti-Cancer Agents |
Nature's Pharmacy: Natural Products as Anti-Cancer Agents is the topic of the Friday, April 11, 2008 Ray A. Barlow Scientific Symposium. Current research indicates natural ingredients in food products like Indian food and green tea may help prevent and treat some types of cancers. John Miler, Ph.D., from the National Cancer Institute will be the featured speaker at this event. The Barlow Symposium is just one of the opportunities basic science researchers at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center-Shreveport have to share their research and hypotheses under investigation. This highly scientific event with informative lectures and poster presentations is free and open to the public. The scientific posters showcase basic science research primarily dealing with cancer at LSUHSC-Shreveport. The posters will be on display all day and scientists are expected to be at their posters during the Wine and Cheese Reception from 4 to 6 p.m. “We are very proud to host symposia as an academic cancer center. The symposia help distinguish us from other community cancer centers,” said Dr. Jonathan Glass, Feist-Weiller Cancer Center Director. Free parking will be available for the event on Kings Highway across the street from the hospital and med school. Signs will direct visitors to the poster displays in the Biomedical Research Institute Atrium and to the lectures in the med school auditorium. For information call (318) 813-1423.
