Gynecological (GYN) Cancer Treatment Team

Specialists at the Feist Weiller Cancer Center treat every patient with an exceptional quality of care consistent with our mission and values. We strive to provide our patients with the most advanced cancer care. Developing strategies to combat cancer, researching better methods for prevention and treatment of cancer, and providing screenings and education materials are just some of the ways we achieve our excellent standard of care.

The gynecology oncology program, under the leadership of Destin Black, M.D. at LSUHSC’s Feist Weiller Cancer Center, and the medical oncologist program, under the leadership of Glenn Mills, M.D. and Richard Mansour, M.D. is committed to providing excellence in patient care; teaching; and most importantly, bringing novel treatments to our patients.

Specially trained Feist Weiller Cancer Center physicians use many methods to arrest the progression of cancer cells. When necessary, Surgical Oncologists perform surgery to remove cancerous tissue such as tumors. After a biopsy with pathological review, physicians at the Feist Weiller Cancer Center determine and prescribe the most effective method of treatment for the individual patient.

The Team

The team consists of physicians including medical oncologists, gynecologists, radiologists and surgeons, as well as an ancillary staff that includes occupational therapists, physician assistants, nurse coordinators, clinical research nurses, psychologists, and social workers are committed to the overall rehabilitation of our patients with state of the art treatment of disease. Screening

A screening test that helps screen for cervical cancer is a pap smear (a procedure where cells are scraped from the cervix for examination under a microscope). This exam is used to detect cancer and changes that may lead to cancer. Women should have a pap smear beginning three years after starting vaginal intercourse and no later than 21. HPV vaccines have the potential for preventing cervical cancer. Routine vaccination is recommended for females ages 11 to 26. Feist Weiller Cancer Center sponsors a community based Partners in Wellness health screening program which operates on a year round basis. Partners in Wellness screening is free to financially qualified or under-insured individuals. Screening tests for prostate, colorectal, breast and cervical cancer are offered. To make a screening appointment or to receive more information:
